The Friends of White Flint
The Friends of White Flint is a Maryland nonprofit organization, started in September 2007 by Barnaby Zall, a tax lawyer with an office in White Flint. The Friends of White Flint is an independent, non-profit organization, and has no connection to the Montgomery County Planning Board or any other government entity.
As a non-governmental organization, Friends of White Flint promotes green, transit-oriented improvements in the White Flint area. Friends of White Flint is dedicated to implementing the Goal and Vision adopted by the former White Flint Advisory Group, a large public committee which advised the Montgomery County Planning Board on the development of the White Flint Sector Plan from 2006 to 2008.
Representatives of residential communities, business interests and landowners all participate in the Friends of White Flint. Members include the largest employers and businesses, homeowners and residential community organizations, and landowners and developers in the White Flint area, but we value all our members equally. Friends of White Flint attempts to carry on the successful positive but sensitive, consensus-building approach used by the former White Flint Advisory Group.
The Board of Directors of Friends of White Flint is divided into three groups: equally representing residents, businesses, and property owners. The current Directors are David Freishtat, Evan Goldman, Suzanne Hudson, Ken Hurdle, Todd Lewers, Mike Smith, Mike Springer, Greg Trimmer, and Barnaby Zall. Almost all Directors were on the former White Flint Advisory Group. Goldman, Hudson and Zall are co-Chairs of the Friends of White Flint and represented the former White Flint Advisory Group in presenting its final report to the Planning Board.
Membership in the Friends of White Flint is open to any person interested in building the new White Flint. Residence in the White Flint area is not required, though only residents or organizations in the White Flint area are eligible for membership in certain membership classes. The Friends of White Flint has four classes of membership:
- Residents and Community Organizations
- Businesses
- Property Owners/Developers
- Associates
